Godowns
A godown is a place where stock is kept: the shop floor, a back store, a warehouse. Every company has a Main Location, and stock with no godown chosen is kept there. To use more than one, turn on Multiple Warehouses in Company Features.
Create a godown
- List of Masters → Godowns → New (or Multi Godowns to add many). Godowns appear in the list once Multiple Warehouses is on.
- Type the Name and, for a sub-location, choose Under (Warehouse → Rack A).
- Save.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Allow storage of materials here | Turn off for a location that only groups others and holds no stock itself. |
| Third-party location | Stock kept at a job worker or consignment agent. It is still yours and counts in closing stock; the type lets job work be tracked separately. |
| Third-party name | Whose premises hold the stock. |
Using godowns
- Split each item's opening stock by godown.
- Pick the godown on each line of a purchase, sale or stock voucher.
- Move stock between godowns with a Stock Journal.
- See stock per godown in the Godown Summary report.
RuleA sale or transfer cannot take more out of a godown than it holds (when negative stock is blocked): “Insufficient stock in godown …”.
